BeHeadHer Bout Battleground!

Saturday night saw the Fred Moule Pavilion converted into a roller derby battleground as a nearly 1000 strong crowd poured in to witness two awesome bouts.

The first bout of the night saw the Reef City Roller Girls New Stars up against Tableland Roller Derby in their first public bout. With most skaters in the New Stars team on debut, this match was sure to entertain and it sure did.

The New Stars got off to an early lead with Tablelands also racking up the quick points. The bout had thrills and spills as the teams traded blows early on, with superb power jams from Pocket Rocket, Carmen Monoxide and Viva Las Vengeance.

The New Stars ultimately taking the win 278 to Tablelands 140.

The second bout of the night saw the Reef City Roller Girls All Stars up against old rivals the Towns Villains Roller Derby. Going into the game the All Stars knew they would need to dig deep against the experienced Townsville side. The scores remained within reach for much of the first period, however Townsville gained the upper hand, heading into half time with the lead.

The second half saw the All Stars come out all guns blazing, the defence strenghthened and a couple of power jams had the crowd on the edge of their seats. It wasn't to be however as the Towns Villains took the win 230 to the All Stars 96.

MVP for the New Stars went to Carmen Monoxide and for the All Stars Fraulein Fierce.

Local bands The Fun-da-mental People and Salacious rocked it out for the crowd, while the merchandise tables and stall holders also proved a big hit with the keen revellers.

A great night of derby and smiles all round.
